Network Smarts is the result of many years industry experience, covering a wide scope of the I.T arena. The company, Network SMARTS is now made up of several divisions, with each division having previously been a successful business or division of a business in it's own right.

Through the years, these groups had grown in to very unique and valued entities, with vast experience and demonstrated expertise in their own area of service, with this growth and continued synergy with the Networks SMARTS culture, each business has now been amalgamated in to the Networks SMARTS organisation.

Evangelise
As proponents of the Open Source value system, the Network SMARTS business and staff encourage the use and support of many Open Source project works, such as Joomla!, Drupal, WordPress and many other applications. Much of our time is dedicated to assisting in project forums, seminars or just simply promoting many aspects of the Open Source Community.

Network SMARTS is also known, world-wide, for it's innovation in business and technology. Our service portfolio reflects our continued investment in new and emerging technologies, such as the adoption of Cloud Computing and Storage Networking to mention only a few.

Leadership & Inspiration

Each of the Network SMARTS business divisions is inspired by several, differing factors, but all have the common thread of holding a desire to deliver highly valued, quality services to our clients, whilst making use of some of the most exciting and up to date technologies. This core value of the Network Smarts persona is driven by it's owner, Russell Winter.

Russell Winter, Principal Consultant and Managing Director
Russell has worked in the Information & Technology industry for over 25 years, maintaining a vast array of experience and knowledge across many segments of the industry, originally apprenticed as a Mainframe Hardware Design Engineer, moving in to Open Systems and Software Development as the industry change direction away from large systems computing. As his career progressed, Russell worked with some of the latest and greatest innovations of their day, the StorageTek 4400 Automated Tape Libraries, Virtualised Disk and Tape technologies including growth area's such as the early days of the Internet and Storage Networking utilising new transports like Fibre Channel and iSCSI.

Most recently, before founding Network Smarts, Russell was Director of Corporate Development and Strategies and Principal Consultant at the Sedona Group and Infinity I/O Australia where he executed a combination of operational and marketing strategies that resulted in the growth of the Storage Consulting practices and recognition of SNIA SAN certification within the region.

In 2002, he launched a new breed of storage consultancy called StorageCorp which was focused on emerging technologies and storage infrastructure simulation applications such as the SANmetrix modeling and simulation suite, where he served as Principal Advisory Engineer and Marketing Director until moving on to further developing the Infinity I/O brand in Asia Pacific in 2003.

Prior to these activities Russ operated as an independent storage consultant and systems design engineer for many years within the Asia Pacific, American and United Kingdom market places. Historically, Russ has also held a number of technical and advisory roles at industry leading vendors, such as EMC, IBM, VERITAS and StorageTek.
